Drone photovoltaic panel cleaning

Regular cleaning of photovoltaic panels is essential to maintain their high efficiency and the profitability of the installation. Dust, soot, traffic-related dirt, plant pollen, and bird droppings accumulate on the surface of the modules, limiting the amount of light reaching the cells. Even a thin layer of contamination can cause a noticeable drop in energy production. Cleaning panels with a drone allows dirt to be effectively removed without stepping onto the roof and without the risk of damaging the installation. The technology uses a low-pressure system that applies demineralized water. As a result, the glass surface is cleaned without streaks and without mineral deposits that could again reduce light transmission. The method is safe for anti-reflective coatings and module frames, and the lack of mechanical contact eliminates the risk of microcracks. Unlike traditional cleaning, there is no need to walk on the roof structure or remove safety equipment. The operator performs the work from ground level, while the drone reaches the entire surface of the installation, including areas that are difficult to access or located on steep roofs. This reduces risk for people and allows the service to be completed faster than with manual methods. Drone cleaning of photovoltaic panels works well for industrial installations as well as for residential buildings or warehouse halls. The service can be performed regularly to maintain stable energy production throughout the year. Clean modules operate more efficiently, and the installation maintains its performance for a longer time. It is a safe, fast, and operationally predictable solution, especially for large rooftop installations where traditional cleaning is difficult or time-consuming.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Does the installation need to be turned off during cleaning?
Yes. For safety reasons and in accordance with good service practice, it is recommended to temporarily turn off the photovoltaic installation during cleaning. This does not affect the long-term operation of the system, but allows the service to be carried out safely and avoids risks associated with working near active modules. After the work is completed, the installation can be turned on again without any impact on its operation.
Can a drone damage photovoltaic panels?
No. Cleaning is performed contactlessly at low pressure, so it does not cause microcracks in the cells or damage to the frames. The drone does not rest on the modules and does not load the structure.
How often should photovoltaic panels be cleaned?
Most often it is recommended once a year, and near agricultural fields, roads, or industrial facilities even more frequently.
Will the water leave streaks on the panels?
No. Reverse osmosis water is used, which after drying does not leave deposits or streaks.
Is the method safe for the anti-reflective coating?
Yes. Low pressure and the absence of brushes protect the delicate glass layer and the anti-reflective coating.
Can the installation be cleaned on a steep or high roof?
Yes. The drone allows cleaning without stepping onto the roof, even on steep roofs or in places with difficult access.
Don’t the panels clean themselves after rain?
Not completely. Rain removes loose dust but leaves minerals and deposits that over time limit light transmission.
Is the cleaning safe for the manufacturer’s warranty?
Yes, because the method does not mechanically interfere with the modules or the structure and is consistent with manufacturers’ recommendations for gentle cleaning.
